Chapter: Castle Rock
Perspective: Simon
Four, to Three, to Two
In the beginning of the day Ralph and Piggy tried to start another fire without Piggy’s glasses, but failed. The wind was too strong and the air was very cold. Piggy is also having a very hard time seeing without his glasses, so most of the time he is lead by Sam and Eric. Piggy had an idea to call a meeting to discuss the options that the boys still belonging to Ralph’s clan had. During the meeting the boys decided that there only option was to go to Castle Rock.
As soon as the boys arrived at Castle Rock, with Ralph clenching the conch, they saw that Jack’s group was full of armed guards. The guards started throwing the rocks at Ralph and his crew and ordered them to leave immediately. As soon as Jack arrived, he came to a cessation, surprised to see Ralph. While he was holding a dead pig, Ralph and Jack started to fight. Jack was ordering Ralph to go away and Ralph was demanding that Jack gave Piggy’s specs back, because it was the right thing to do. Truculently, Jack and Ralph approached each other and broke out into a fight. Roger with a delirious expression was sitting on top of a rock wall manning a lever that would send rocks tumbling onto Piggy, Sam, Eric and the other littluns. The lever was a talisman.
Ralph was constantly trying to get Jack to understand how important the signal fire was and that it would not be able to be lit unless they had possession of Piggy’s specs. As the fight continues, Jack ordered his guards to capture and tie up SamnEric. I could tell that the look on Ralph’s face was filled with such hostility because it started to become red and I could just imagine smoke about to burst out of his ears. Then Piggy started to yell over the loud noise of the fight. Sadly, Roger then pushed a huge rock off the rock wall that landed on Piggy and sent him flying off the cliff over a 40-foot drop that made him land on sharp rocks. All the boys on the island witness the now dead Piggy, who had blood, guts and brains spewing out of his head. The four (Jack, Piggy, Ralph and I) we now only three because of the deaths of me and Piggy.
